On Tuesday the 17th we’re back at the Roxy Bar & Screen again with Gus Van Sant’s beautiful Gerry (2002), a film about a hiking misadventure which leaves Matt Damon and Casey Affleck dehydrated and wandering in the American desert. With improvised dialogue, a minimalist soundtrack by Arvo Pärt, and plenty of long shots of grand, bleak landscapes.
We will also have a reading by Tim Cresswell from Rebecca Solnit’s ‘Field Guide to Getting Lost’, and a survival skills quiz with three copies of Andrew R Friedemann’s manual ‘Navigation Anyplace Wild’ to win (see his navigation website). The uploader of the best song to our collaborative Spotify playlist about getting lost, which we’ll be listening to on the night, will also win a golden compass.
